I am reminded of a Muddle Headed Wombat...

My kids' dad and I shared the love of reading from our collected children's books  to our kids.  The Muddle Headed Wombat was a definate favourite.  I think it was first a radio series in Australia and then later turned into a bunch of books.  The illustrations were lovely and the stories hilarious and sweet.  I think he took this one.  I would love to find a copy.  I am pleased to see it is still available in print.  Maybe I will save up for next Xmas... 
Another favourite was this book.  I think I still have it.  I will go and find it. .I got pretty good at doing different voices for all the animals.  When you are a Tiger, all you want is Trout with bread crumbs, that is all that will make you feel better.
