Wow. I guess I should update my bio! I am in my 60's. I started lurking various fandoms on LiveJournal thanks to my niece wayback last century sometime. I met and lost some friends along the way...

I started trying to write a book and then another. Writing has been a challenge but one I love, some days.

I recently got a story published in print. I don't know why having it in an actual book I can hold in my hands feels so much more important than getting it printed on-line but it does, I guess it's coming from a different era.

I painted for years with only a small amount of success, I guess I covered the cost of a small studio with sales but I really never got my stride. Writing doesn't require a lot of physical space. And wierdly, the people you meet are nicer.

I guess the only other thing is I was once a probationary monk, Soto Zen. I took vows and wore robes and traveled with my teacher until I had a nervous/physical breakdown. Allowances would have been made for this of course but I was questioning my reasons for wanting to become a monk. I love Soto Zen. I love the fact that true freedom is not limited external circumstances but I didn't feel the monestary was where I was needed. So I have continued to practice without the benefit of all the forms that would support my practice. And I still don't know how to be in the world. Mostly "don't know" works for now. I do speak up when it seems obvious that something needs to be said to lessen suffering. I write a blog called "Seriously Clowning Around" on Wordpress about my efforts.

I am no saint. I am incredibly weak and have some bad habits, I suffer from depression and physical illness and loneliness, but I also feel fortunate to meet wonderful people and creatures and I laugh a lot, really quite often and count myself very fortunate.

Fandoms: I am hooked on all of the Star Trek, all versions, new and old, one time line or the other is fine. It is sometimes corny, campy, too preachy and too heavy handed in its efforts, but always sincere and in keeping with the central idea: to explore strange new worlds. To seek out new life and new civilizations. To boldly go where no (wo)man has gone before! Because in all it's seeking the "other" this (wo)man finds herself in the end, and I love that message. It's very Zen.
