Okay, I watched the movie with my son.  I try not to be so extravagant as to rent movies unless at least one other person is going to watch with me and we both saw the trailer so wtf...

I have read Bill Bryson's book on Shake Spear and a wonderful book, probabaly out of print, that I made the mistake of lending Shakespeare's London which gave a great perspective on all the things going on that made his work and the fact that it got preserved, never mind performed, something on the order of a miracle, and every friggin movie ever made about him and ever adaptation for screen of his plays and even a few fanciful versions on the little that is known of his life and OMG this movies NAILS the history and weaves a story that is MIND BLOWING.

It is also beautiful even though there is so much muck and filth in London and on Londoners at the time you can almost smell it.

The acting is great.  I do wonder about Ben Johnson's voice though, never mind.  I loved it.  I watched it twice.  I cringed, cryed, laughed and died.

good movie, the truth?
