My not so wonderful ebook!

I try to be an environmental nut job. I compost, I sort my recycling, I buy bulk. This year, like last year, we are only giving handmade and recycled gifts and like last year, I expect it will really cut down on what we throw out. I refurbished and repaired every electronic device in our house that I could. I squeezed another five years out of a 20 year old washing machine before replacing it and the dryer (25 years old) with a new energy saver one. When I can, I avoid buying new technology in favour of maintaining and upgrading.
My Sony E-reader died! (The highlighted bit is a link to an article I wrote back in the good old days when I thought things were looking up).
I went into the Sony store and they told me to try a few different things before bringing it in to be serviced. I tried them all and then returned to the store. They had the same e-book at a greatly reduced price: $79! Guess how much it was going to cost to repair my old one. $70.
I almost cried. The poor guy had to listen to my environmental nut job ranting, added to that a bit of old lady angst against how fast things become obsolete. At one point I noticed the man's right eye was considerably larger than the the left eye. (This is the curse of being me, I notice things that have nothing to do with anything, but because I notice them I try to figure out what they mean.) Was he trying to stare me down? Was this an indication that he was really interested?
Long and short: He gave me a phone number and suggested I let them know how unhappy I am with this. I haven't called them yet.
What he was able to tell me is the cost is a result of my e-reader model being discontinued. The most state of the art thing about me is already shelved. Oooh, my ovaries just got twisted in a knot over that! Perhaps I need more fiber. Maybe I can shred my ebook and eat it?
