Kenya was for a long time a shinning star of economic and social stability in Africa. Kenyatta who had been trained by the British as a soldier used what he learned to kick the British out and then also applied it to his ruling of the country. He made sure that each of the troops in the army had no single tribal majority, and a diversity of leaders. He entrenched Swahili as the national language. Because it was essentially a designed language for the purposes of trade no single group had the ownership, nor was it the language of a previous occupying force. (However, English is still spoken, Swahili has thrived.) ( things have changed... )
Ruling the world is something I think about sometimes, (yes, from my mother's basement) not seriously of course, I can't even convince a 93 year old to stay hydrated, but when confronted with some of the overwhelming issues in the world it is useful to think outside the despair; play around with ideas; focus emotional energy in a way that anything that seems to steer our canoe towards the shore we might wish for becomes a beacon of hope.
